Some General FAQ's

  2. I have a medical condition, can I still get involved?
  3. I would like to learn at the same time as my girlfriend/wife.
  4. I would like to travel and do the sport in some different countries

1. Will participating in these sports enhance my status in society?

Probably not! But you will enjoy the experience whilst it lasts!Top

2. I have a medical condition, can I still get involved?

All power kite activities require a degree of good motor skills, although saying that these sports will also help you to improve your existing motor skill. You should discuss any potential medical issues with your own GP and your instructor before booking a lesson, and will normally be asked to fill out a medical form as a declaration of anything that the instructor should be aware of. All information will be kept confidential. Diabetes for instance can be an issue with water based activities, however like anything, being aware of a potential problem goes a long way to helping you enjoy a sport and making sure adequate precautions are put into practice. 3. I would like to learn at the same time as my girlfriend/wife.

Many couples learn this sport together and in reality if you decide to take up the sport as an ongoing activity sharing equipment costs can be greatly reduced as a woman is likely to use smaller kites in the same conditions as a heavier man. When it comes to getting instruction we strongly recommend that you each use a different instructor or are working with a different group of people (we are joking with this answer although we have witnessed the odd dispute). We want you to enjoy the sports on offer....not fight over who is learning quickest!Top

4. I would like to travel and do the sport in some different countries

Compared to some sports most power kite activities take up little baggage space although as you get more involved in the sport of your choice you will gather more equipment, so you may want to check out hiring some of the kit where you are going to avoid excess baggage charges. Power kite sports can be enjoyed in many locations throughout the world although in most instances people prefer to use their own equipment. On the Kitesurfing front as time goes by the standard of hire equipment is improving although we would recommend that you always take your own control bar and lines and harness that you trust and enquire before you go on the type of equipment a centre has to offer.Top

5. Where is the best place to buy equipment?

Improvements in equipment over the last 5 years in all aspects of power kite activities (but especially Kitesurfing) has been quantum. This has resulted in a lot of 2nd hand kit being available. However before purchasing 2nd hand kit it is advisable that you check it out first or get an experienced friend to do so as any wear and tear in the kit could seriously turn what looked like a bargain into a nightmare, not just with the cost to repair it, but with the consequences should something go wrong with it during use.Top
